At It’s Time Surrogacy we often receive queries from women about how to become a surrogate mother. Here is a brief explanation of two types of surrogate pregnancy and a link to surrogacy requirements to help you understand what you might expect from becoming a surrogate mother.
Gestational Surrogates
Gestational surrogates are women who carry a child(ren) who are not genetically linked to themselves. The surrogate and the intended parent(s) undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF), where the embryos are created outside the body, then transferred into the surrogate’s womb. Sometimes these embryos are created using egg donors, sperm donors, or both. To be a surrogate you must fulfill requirements, which you can review here.
If you are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate and you meet the requirements, please complete the surrogate application. We will then review your application and contact you to discuss moving forward with your surrogacy journey.
Making the decision to be a gestational surrogate is a very big decision and should not be made lightly. If you just want to discuss what is involved in being a surrogate or have questions, please contact us and we will answer your questions and discuss your concerns with you.
Traditional Surrogates
These are women who carry a child(ren) who are genetically linked to themselves. In this type of surrogacy, the pregnancy is achieved either by artificial insemination, or in vitro fertilization. The requirements to be a surrogate can be found here, however, there are additional requirements for traditional surrogates we will need to review with you directly. If you are interested in becoming a traditional surrogate please complete the surrogate application, we will then review your application and contact you to discuss moving forward with your unique surrogacy journey. Please contact us directly to answer your questions, review your concerns, and discuss the special considerations.
